Found an agency's number and thinking of writing to it directly? It is quick, and it can go perfectly well. Going through a platform like KiraCars does change several things, though, and here they are, without exaggeration.
What does a direct exchange by message do well?
Writing to an agency has real advantages, and they should be acknowledged.
- It is quick. You ask a question, someone answers, with no form to fill in.
- It is personal. You are talking to a person, who can adapt to your situation: a late arrival, a particular meeting place, a question about the boot.
- It is flexible. You adjust a detail, change a time, discuss the price in a few messages.
- It is familiar. If you already know the agency and it has served you well, nothing obliges you to change a habit that works.
So the differences are not about speed. They are about what you know about the agency, what is in writing, and what happens when a problem arises.
Do you know who you are writing to?
A phone number or a page online does not tell you who is behind it. On KiraCars, before an agency can list its vehicles, the team checks its business identity: legal name, tax ID, trade register. The account is approved within 48 hours. An agency whose information is inaccurate is refused or suspended.
This check does not judge the quality of an agency's service. It establishes that you are dealing with an identified business, whose information has been checked. If you go through messages, nothing stops you from asking for the same information: the legal name and the tax ID. The answer, or the lack of one, already tells you something.
What is a price quoted in a conversation worth?
In an exchange by message, the price can arrive in several pieces: a daily rate, then the deposit, then a condition added later. Everything may be perfectly clear. But nothing guarantees that it is all in one place.
On KiraCars, the agency answers a quote request with a written offer. It states the model, the total price, the deposit amount and the terms. It is valid until the date shown on it. You can accept it online, or make a counter-offer with "Name my price". The agency then confirms.
Payment, for its part, does not change: the price is paid to the agency, in Tunisian dinars, when the keys are handed over. KiraCars charges the renter no fees and charges nothing online.
Can you compare several agencies without chasing them one by one?
By message, comparing means writing to several agencies, rephrasing the same request for each, then matching up answers that each present in their own way. It can be done, but it takes a long time, especially from abroad.
With a quote request, you describe your dates, the location and the type of car just once. Agencies in the area reply with offers built the same way: model, total price, deposit, terms. You compare them line by line.
You do not need to create an account to make the request. A name, a phone number, an email address, your date of birth and the date you obtained your licence are enough. A business can add its legal name and tax ID.
What happens if there is a breakdown or a disagreement?
This is where the difference shows. By message, everything rests on the goodwill of both parties and on what each has kept on their phone. With a rental made through KiraCars:
- the condition report photos, at pick-up and return, are timestamped and kept by KiraCars;
- if there is a breakdown or an accident that is not your fault, you report it from your customer area or the app; the agency has 24 hours to offer a vehicle of an equivalent category; failing that, the rental ends and only the days used are payable, any day started counting as a full day;
- if there is a disagreement, you report it from the booking or to contact@kiracars.com, and KiraCars steps in as a mediator, based on the photos, the contract and the messages kept;
- cancelling or changing is free of charge up to 48 hours before pick-up; after that, the agency may refuse.
Mediator does not mean insurer. KiraCars owns no vehicles, and the agency remains responsible for the car, its insurance and its handover. What the platform provides is set out on the KiraCars guarantee page.
What stays the same in both cases?
Going through a platform does not change everything. Whether you write to the agency or go through a quote:
- you pay the agency, in Tunisian dinars, with the payment method it accepts;
- the deposit is set by the agency, in cash or by card pre-authorisation according to its rules;
- the agency checks your identity document and your licence when it hands over the keys;
- the minimum age and the minimum time holding a licence are set by the agency, model by model;
- a driver who has not been declared to the agency is not covered.
One more thing to know: on KiraCars, booking goes through a quote request and then the agency's confirmation. It is not instant booking. If you need a car within the hour, calling an agency directly will still be quicker.
Booking by message: what should you get in writing?
If you choose the direct route, recreate for yourself what a written offer provides. Before confirming, ask in the conversation for:
- the agency's legal name and tax ID;
- the vehicle model and the total price, not just the daily rate;
- the deposit amount and method;
- the amount of the excess in the event of a claim;
- the cancellation terms and the planned return time;
- what to do in the event of a breakdown.
At pick-up, photograph the car from every angle, the interior, the odometer and the fuel level. Keep these photos and the conversation until your deposit has been returned. For other practical matters, the frequently asked questions page brings together the answers to common questions.
Want to compare before deciding? Make a quote request from the car rental in Tunis page, or from your city's page. You compare the written offers, then accept the one that suits you or name your price.
