Frequently Asked Questions

KiraCars in brief

What is KiraCars?

KiraCars connects people who want to rent a car with verified rental agencies. We do not own any vehicles: the rental agreement is made with the agency, which remains responsible for the car, its insurance and its handover. Our role is to help you find the right agency, to make prices and terms clear before you commit, and to act as a mediator if something goes wrong.

Are the agencies verified?

Yes. Before an agency can list a car, our team checks its business identity — legal name, tax ID, trade register — and approves its account. An agency that provides inaccurate information is refused or suspended. It remains bound to hand you a vehicle that is compliant and insured.

How much does KiraCars cost the renter?

Nothing. Today, KiraCars charges the renter no fees: the price you are offered is the agency's price, and you pay it to the agency.

Requesting a car

How do I rent a car with KiraCars?

You describe what you need — dates, pick-up location, type of car — in the quote request form. Agencies in the area with an available vehicle reply with their offers: model, total price, deposit, terms. You choose the one that suits you and accept it online; the agency then confirms the booking.

Do I need an account to request a quote?

No. Your name, phone number and email address are enough, along with your date of birth and the date you obtained your licence: these are what allow agencies to reply with a vehicle you are eligible for. Businesses can give their legal name and tax ID.

Can I negotiate the price of an offer?

Yes. You can accept each offer as it stands or make a counter-offer, which the agency may accept or decline. An offer is valid until the date shown on it. After that you can still write to the agency, but no longer accept or counter-offer.

Does the price go down the longer you rent?

Yes. Agencies use tiered pricing: the daily rate of a week-long rental is lower than that of a two-day one. The total price of the offer already takes the requested duration into account.

Can I rent for several months?

Yes. Up to three months, it is a short-term rental at a sliding-scale rate. Beyond that, it is long-term rental: a monthly rate, with a mileage allowance and servicing rules agreed in advance, for individuals and businesses alike. You make the request from the Long-term rental page; it does not hold any vehicle until you have accepted an offer.

Documents and drivers

What documents do I need to rent a car?

An identity document (identity card or passport) and a driving licence, both valid. The agency checks them when it hands over the keys: without them, it cannot let you have the vehicle.

Is there a minimum age or a minimum time holding a licence?

Yes. Each agency sets its own requirements, and they can vary from one model to another: they are shown on the offer or on the vehicle's page. For a quote request in Tunisia, you will generally need to be at least 21 and to have held your licence for two years; some agencies ask for more for the most powerful vehicles.

Can I add a second driver?

Yes, provided you declare them to the agency with their own identity document and their own driving licence. Anyone who drives without having been declared is not covered: if anything happens, the agency's terms apply, and the rental is not reduced in proportion to the unused days.

Payment and deposit

How do I pay for the rental?

In full, to the agency, in Tunisian dinars, when you collect the car. The payment method — cash, bank card — depends on the agency: confirm it with them before the day of pick-up. KiraCars collects no money related to the rental, and nothing is charged online.

Can I see prices in euros?

Yes, prices can be shown in other currencies, for guidance only. Only the amount in Tunisian dinars paid to the agency is binding.

How does the deposit work?

The deposit is a security sum requested by the agency; its amount is shown on the offer. Depending on the agency, it is either pre-authorised on your bank card, on the agency's card terminal, or handed over in cash, in dinars. You get it back when you return the car, if it comes back in the condition you took it in, with no damage, without going over the mileage allowance and at the agreed time. It never passes through KiraCars.

What is the excess?

It is the share of the damage that you still have to pay in the event of a claim, even when the car is insured. Its amount is shown on the vehicle's page; in the event of an accident, it is deducted from the deposit.

Cancellation, unforeseen events and disputes

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Yes, free of charge, up to 48 hours before pick-up. After that, the agency may refuse the cancellation. As nothing is paid online when you book, there is nothing to refund you.

What happens if there is a breakdown or an accident during the rental?

Report it to the agency and to KiraCars from your customer area or the app. If the breakdown or accident is not your fault, the agency has 24 hours to offer you a vehicle of an equivalent category. Failing that, the rental ends and only the days actually used remain payable — any day started counts as a full day.

How is the car's condition recorded?

Through photos taken at pick-up and return, timestamped and kept by KiraCars. If there is a disagreement about damage, they show what was already there and what was not.

What should I do if I disagree with the agency?

Report it from your booking, in your customer area, or write to us at contact@kiracars.com. KiraCars then steps in as a mediator between you and the agency, based on the photos, the contract and the messages kept on the platform.

Your data

Are my documents protected?

Your documents — identity document, driving licence — can only be accessed by KiraCars and by the agency you are renting from, for that rental. They are never resold. In accordance with the Tunisian law on the protection of personal data (law 2004-63), you can access them, or have them corrected or deleted, by writing to contact@kiracars.com.
